Simone was born on 24th May 1993 and grew up in a small town in the south of The Netherlands. After graduating high school she moved in 2012 to Arnhem to study BEAR (formally known as Fine Art) at ArtEZ, University of the Arts. Simone works on the borders between documentary and art. She uses video as a means to investigate how she can go beyond a pretentious objective presentation of the subject at hand. In her words: “I came to realize, why shouldn’t I attempt to touch the Other, feel the Other, to explain the Other to myself, as myself. Through the Other, with the Other. In order to elude a new understanding of our identities and place.” It is in this ‘Other’ that she sees her own search for a place reflected. A place to feel accepted, to be heard, to be seen, a place to ‘be’. She takes you inside spaces and stories that would otherwise remain out of sight or silent. Once you have arrived there she lets you go, in order for you to navigate through them with your own ideas, questions, experiences and perceptions. It is an invitation to investigate, to get involved. Simone currently works and lives in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
